Dreher Island State Park actually spans three islands connected to the shore with a bridge. It is 348 acres and has 12 miles of Lake Murray shoreline. Visitors will find recreational water activities, nature trails, and some of the best large-mouth and striped bass fishing spots, all only 30 miles from Columbia. It has long been a popular location and the perfect launching spot for major national fishing tournaments.
For overnight accommodations with views of Lake Murray, lodging reservations can be made in its park villas, or guests can camp at one of many lakefront campsites.
Three islands stretch out onto and provide access to 50,000-acre Lake Murray a short drive from Columbia. There are five lakeside villas with two- and three-bedroom units, and a community building that makes a great location for family reunions.
The park also includes 10 picnic shelters, and three fish tournament shelters with wi-fi, a live well, and a catch and release tank. There are also three boat ramps that provide private boat access to Lake Murray, three playgrounds scattered throughout the park for children and three trails for recreational use.
In two campgrounds, there are 97 paved sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, while 15 sites are for tent campers only. Each site has water and electrical hook-ups and a picnic table. Many sites accommodate RVs from 30 to 45 feet.
Amenities include hot showers and restrooms. There is also a dump station. Pets are allowed and must be on a leash.
Park office hours are 8 am-5 pm. Camping reservations must be made for a minimum of two nights. Reservations requested less than one day in advance of check-in must be made directly through the park. Camping rates is $34 to $49 per night depending on location, season and site amenities.Fees are subject to state and local taxes, and are subject to change. Check-out time is 12:00 pm. All vehicles entering the park need a daily pass. Day use rates are $3 adults; $1.50 SC seniors; $1 children age 6-15; age 5 & younger free.
