The citizens of Newport and Jackson County love to have fun, and they especially love sharing their fun times with others! Visitors can find them enjoying live music, movies, and art workshops during events such as Monster Nights, Newport’s Downtown Entertainment Series.

Take advantage of the wonderful hiking, hunting, swimming, picnicking, and fishing opportunities at Jacksonport State Park. Or attend any of the local sporting events presented by the Greyhounds of Newport High School.

If visual, musical, and literary art appeals to visitors, they won’t want to miss the Delta Arts Festival, one of the state’s largest art shows, held in downtown Newport. For free family fun, it’s the annual Kids Fest or Depot Days Festival. And even at other times of the year, families won’t want to miss the Missouri-Pacific Railroad Depot, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Local attractions cover a wide variety of interests and activities, including Jacksonport, the historic river port that houses an 1800s steamboat, the Empie-Van Dyke house, also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and learn the importance of Elvis Presley’s visit to Newport at the Rock and Roll Highway 67 Museum. There are many more attractions to enjoy in Newport, and visitors will be treated to some wonderful southern hospitality when they stay.
